Hanna Sets ASC Record In Win Over ETBU

Kalin Hanna and Sarah Van Remmen have career days for the Lady Jackets versus ETBU

Box Score MARSHALL, Texas – Sarah Van Remmen scored a career high 24 points for Howard Payne in a 74-65 conference victory for the Lady Jackets over East Texas Baptist Saturday afternoon at Ornelas Gymnasium.

Kalin Hanna set a new American Southwest Conference record for block shots in a season with 84. Her seven blocks versus ETBU pushes her past Lindsey Newcombe of Hardin-Simmons, who had 83 in 28 games in 2008-09.

Howard Payne outrebounded ETBU 52-44 and dominated second chance points 24-9. ETBU did force 20 Lady Jacket turnovers while only committing 10 themselves.

Leading 30-25 at the half, HPU found their lead dwindle down to two with 6:51 remaining in the game.

Britani Gattis would then hit three three-point buckets along with one from Danyel Bradley to extend the Lady Jackets lead to its largest of the game, 66-52.

Sarah Van Remmen added eight rebounds to her new career high 23 points. Bradley followed with 20 points and nine rebounds.

Gattis had 17 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Hanna had eight points and nine rebounds to go with her record breaking seven blocks. Shardena Hudson dished out a game high five assist.

ETBU was led by Jasmine Davis with a game high 24 points with eight rebounds and six blocks. Amanda Rucker added 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Howard Payne is now 16-9 overall and 15-7 going into the conference tournament next weekend in Tyler, Texas. ETBU ends their season at 9-15 overall and 7-14 in conference play. Official ASC tournament information will be released on Tuesday.
