Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne softball splits a non-conference double header with Austin College 3-2 and 0-8 Sunday afternoon at Lady Jacket Field.

Howard Payne scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Austin College in game one 3-2. The first run came on a homerun by Beth Mullins. Later, Amanda Gober would reach on an error by the Austin College second baseman to pushing home Jessica Morales for the 3-2 victory.

Tayler Rushing got the complete game win allowing two runs on five hits and striking-out six. Larisa Salazar and Kodi Glosson also recorded hits for the Lady Jackets in game one.

Austin College took game two 8-0 in seven innings scoring runs in the first, fifth and seventh innings. The Lady Jackets had five hits as a team while Austin College recorded 12. Three Howard Payne fielding errors contributed the loss.

Ashmore Morgan recorded the loss for HPU giving up eight runs on 12 hits striking-out four.

Erin McLeod was 2 of 3 from the plate. Gober, Salazar and Shandi Winstead also recorded hits for Howard Payne.

The Lady Jackets are now 1-2 to start the season. Austin College stands at 1-2 overall. Howard Payne will play next weekend at home in a conference series with Letourneau University.
