Lady Jackets Split DH With Ozarks

Larisa Salazar had a walkoff RBI single in game one of the Ozarks DH

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BROWNWOOD, Texas - Howard Payne's Larisa Salazar had a walkoff RBI single to give the Lady Jackets a 7-6 come from behind victory in game one of a double header with the University of the Ozarks Friday afternoon in conference action. Howard Payne fell 7-3 in game two.

Ozarks used a five run top of the sixth to gain a 6-2 lead. The Lady Jackets answered with two in the bottom of the inning and three in the bottom of the seventh to claim the 7-6 win.

HPU's Larisa Salazar singled up the middle in the seventh to score Tayler Rushing for the winning run. 

Cherita George was 3-for-4 from the plate with an RBI for the Lady Jackets. Pricilla Patino and Shandi Winstead each recorded two hits. Rushing got the complete game win for Howard Payne giving up six runs on 16 hits and striking out six. 

The Lady Jackets took a 3-1 lead in the sixth when Shandi Winstead hit a two-run homer to left field, her first of the year. Needing only three outs to finish out the win, the Lady Jackets allowed six Ozark runs in the top of the seventh and fell 7-3.

Adrienne Sanchez got the loss for HPU allowing seven runs on 13 hits. Sanchez was also 2-for-3 from the plate. Winstead had two runs batted in.

Howard Payne is now 3-21 overall and 2-18 in conference. Ozarks stands at 3-24 overall and 2-18 in league play. Both teams will finish out the conference series with a single game on Saturday starting at 12:00 noon.
