Jackets Lose 6-3 To The Lobos

Box Score ALPINE, Texas - The Sul Ross State lobos scored three runs in the eighth to defeat the Howard Payne baseball team 6-3 in the conference series opener Friday evening at Kokernot Field. Despite loss Jackets claim first ASC tournament birth since 2002.

Howard Payne scored three runs in their opening at bat when Kyle Kulczyk hit a three-run homer to right field. It was the first homerun for Kulczyk as a Yellow Jacket.

Sul Ross scored one in the sixth and three in the eighth to take the game 6-3. The Jackets would strand runners every inning but the third. HPU had 10 hits in the game while Sul Ross totaled 11.

Starter Matthew Parks went 6.1 innings striking out six and walking just one. Jamie Boyd and Ethan Ferrel saw one-third of an inning each.,Cody Cain and Dustin DeJohn each had two hits for the Jackets.

With loses by East Texas Baptist and UT-Tyler today, the Yellow Jackets claim an ASC Championship Tournament bid, the first since 2002.

Howard Payne is now 17-21 overall and 14-17 in conference. Sul Ross State stands at 19-19 overall and 15-16 in league play. Both teams will playa double header on Saturday starting at 1:00 pm.
