RICHARDSON, Texas - The 2014 American Southwest Conference Baseball Championship will be hosted by Concordia Texas and held at Tornado Field in Austin, Texas. Howard Payne will be the number five seed and makes the tournament for the first time since 2002.

The ASC Baseball Championship is scheduled to be played May 7-10 with the possibility of an extra game on May 11. An eight-team double-elimination event, the ASC Championship consists of 14 games with a possible "if necessary" 15th game. In a double-elimination format, the 15th game will played if an undefeated team playing in the championship loses the first game.

Concordia Texas (22-10, 27-12) is 16-15 in tournament play and makes its fourth consecutive ASC Tournament appearance and 10th overall. LeTourneau (22-11, 28-12) makes its first ASC Tournament appearance in team history. The YellowJackets locked up the No. 2 seed after winning a team-record 22 games against conference opponents.

Texas-Dallas (19-13, 24-15) is the No. 3 seed and will play in its sixth consecutive ASC Tournament and 11th overall. The Comets are 21-22 in tournament play and have reached four championship games with the most recent in 2012. Mary Hardin-Baylor (19-14, 25-15) makes its second consecutive ASC Tournament and sixth overall. The Cru is the No. 4 seed and holds a 2-10 mark in tournament play.

The No. 5 seed Howard Payne (16-17, 19-21), makes its third ASC Tournament appearance and first since 2002. The Yellow Jackets are 4-4 in tournament play. Sul Ross State (15-18, 19-21) is the No. 6 seed and will compete in its third ASC Tournament. The Lobos are 4-2 in tournament play and make their first tournament appearance since 1999, the same year SRSU won the tournament.

The No. 7 seed Louisiana College (15-18, 16-23) will play in its fifth consecutive ASC Tournament and ninth overall. The Wildcats are 7-17 in tournament play and reached the championship game for the first time in 2013. The defending ASC champions Texas-Tyler (14-19, 16-24), is the No. 8 seed and makes its seventh consecutive tournament appearance. The Patriots are 21-9 in tournament play and have won three championships in the last five years.
Howard Payne and Mary Hardin-Baylor will start the tournament in game one at 10:00 a.m. The regular season champions Concordia Texas will play the defending tournament champions Texas-Tyler in game two at 1:00 p.m. In game three, Texas-Dallas will face Sul Ross State at 4:00 p.m. and LeTourneau will play Louisiana College at 7:00 p.m. in the last game of the opening day.

Eight different member universities have hoisted the trophy at the ASC Baseball Championship led by Texas-Tyler (2009, 10', 13), Concordia Texas (2002, 11', 12') and Sul Ross State (1999).

The 2014 ASC Championship is the 18th in league history and the first since 2004 to be played in its entirety in one location. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students and seniors. Tickets will be available for purchase at the stadium on game days.

The winner of the tournament is the ASC champion and earns an automatic qualification into the 2014 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship. Selections for the NCAA Division III Championship will be held May 11 on NCAA.com. The regionals of the NCAA Division III Championship will be played May 14-18. The Championship will be played May 23-27 and hosted by Lawrence University and the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, Wis.

Mississippi College is ineligible for participation in ASC Championship Tournaments in sports where the conference holds an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Championship due to its ineligibility for the national tournament as a Division II reclassification candidate. The Choctaws (18-15, 21-19) finished ASC play in fifth-place in the final ASC standings.

About Tornado Field
Built in 2010, Tornado Field has hosted three ASC Tournament First Rounds, the 2012 ASC Tournament Championship Round and the 2013 NCAA Division III West Regional. The playing field is a Field Turf surface, while the stadium holds 1,100 spectators in the covered grandstands and includes nearly 300 chair back seats.
