KERRVILLE, Texas - The Howard Payne women's soccer team could not hold on to a 1-0 halftime advantage dropping their season opener 2-1 to Schreiner University Friday afternoon.

Howard Payne would get their first goal of the season in the 18th minute when Marlene Gillespie found the net on an Anissa Peralta assist. The Lady Jackets would out shoot Schreiner 3-0 in the first period.

Schreiner responded in the second with a goal in the 74th minute and the game winner in the 85th minute. Howard Payne would lead Schreiner 5-3 on corner kicks for the game. Nicole Goodwin got the loss for HPU playing 90 minutes in goal.

Howard Payne is now 0-1 overall and Schreiner stands at 1-0. The Lady Jackets will play their home opener on Saturday at 2:00 pm versus Austin College. All HPU home games are played at Citizens National Bank Field and admission is free.
