BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets fell 3-2 in overtime to LeTourneau University on Thursday afternoon putting them at 2-7-1 overall.
Hunter Swift scored the game's first goal for LETU in the 36th minute off a breakaway run.
Alex Sanchez scored the equalizer in the 64th minute off a penalty kick after an LETU handball in the box.
Shay Pate followed in the 74th minute with a rocket left footed shot from 38 yards out to put the Jackets up 2-1. Mario Lopez tied the game up in the 88th minute on a follow up shot and it was Aaron Hastings scoring the golden goal for LETU to end in the game in the 93rd minute.
Howard Payne outshot LETU 19-18 with 6 shots on goal.
Alex Sanchez led with four shots and two on goal.
Shay Pate finished with three shots, two being on goal.
Michael Westerman had three shots on the match.
Reid Longabaugh and
Tracer Moore each added two.
Allan Chehadi played the full 93 minutes in the goal picking up four saves on the match.
LETU had seven shots on goal to Howard Payne's six. Aaron Hastings led with four shots on the match. Antonio Fernandez and Mario Lopez each added three shots. Fernandez and Chris Marquez each had an assist. Miguel Cabrera finished with three saves on the match.
The Jackets are now 2-7-1 overall and 0-5-1 in conference play. LeTourneau sits at 4-8-1 overall and holds a 2-3 conference record. Howard Payne will be back in action on Saturday, October 17th as they take on East Texas Baptist University at 3:00 p.m. at Citizens National Bank Field.
