BROWNWOOD, Texas - Howard Payne University managed only 346 yards of total offense in a 51-13 conference loss to East Texas Baptist Saturday afternoon at Gordon Wood Stadium.

East Texas Baptist put up 694 yards of total offense, 266 rushing and 428 passing. Howard Payne had 346 total yards, 110 rushing and 236 passing. 

Richard Young was 19-for-37 passing for all of HPU's 236 yards in the air with two interceptions. Colby Mica led the HPU receivers with seven catches for 86 yards. Deandre Walker had one 55-yards TD catch in the second half.

After ETBU scored on their first play from scrimmage, the Jackets would answer later in the first quarter with a Joshua Martinez 40 yard field goal (28th of his career). The Martinez kick capped a 15 play 75 yards drive for the Jackets.

From that point, ETBU scored 41 unanswered point to lead 48-3 going into the fourth quarter. 

The Jackets would final get into thew endzone at the start of the fourth when Young found Walker for a 55 yard TD grab. The reception capped a four play 70 yard drive for Howard Payne.

Martinez added his 29th field goal of his career with 5:06 left in the game to round out the final 51-13 score.

HPU LB Jason Disney led all tackles with 17, four solo. Jordan Shaw, Adrian Hopkins and Kris Mack each had nine tackles. Donald Preston recorded two sacks to improve his season total to 5.5 on the year. Mica is now just five catches away from tying the HPU career receptions record.

ETBU was led by Warbington with 22-for-24 passing for 378 yards and two touchdowns. Roberson rushed for 164 yards on 20 carries and three TDs.

Howard Payne is now 0-6 overall and 0-1 in American Southwest Conference play. ETBU stands at 4-2 overall and 2-0 in league play.
