BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University men's soccer team lost in the second overtime against Belhaven University Thursday afternoon at Citizens National Bank field.
With Belhaven leading 2-1, HPU's
Shay Pate scored his 17th goal of his career in the 67th minute to tie the match and ultimately send it to overtime.
Belhaven's Cillian Thompson scored his second goal of the match this one the game winner in the 103rd minute to give the Brazers the 3-2 win.
Alex Sanchez got Howard Payne on the scoreboard first in the match scoring on an,
Andrew Stevenson assist in the 20th minute. Belhaven answered five minutes later to tie the game at 1-1.
Belhaven then pulled ahead just three minutes into the second period on Thompson's first goal.
Allan Chehadi recorded the loss for the Jackets playing the entire game in goal. Chehadi recorded 11 saves and allowed three goals.
Howard Payne was outshot by Belhaven 27-8 overall, 17-5 in shots on goal, but the Jackets did have six corner kicks to the Blazers five.
Howard Payne is now 3-10-1 overall and Belhaven stands at 12-3-1 overall. The Jackets will finish out their season on Saturday versus conference opponent Louisiana College at 3:00 pm. The HPU seniors will be recognized before the match.
