BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne softball team claimed double header nonconference wins 7-4 and 7-4 over Huston-Tillotson University Tuesday afternoon at Lady Jacket Field.

With HPU down 2-1, the Lady Jackets used a four-run second inning to open the game up. Kennedy Coffin had a sac fly to right field to score Kodi Glosson scored. Allison Eaton then singled to left field to score Adrienne Sanchez. Gaby Muniz tripled to right field scoring Eaton and finally Erin McLeod doubled to left field to score Muniz.

After HTU scored single runs in the third and fourth, HPU added two insurance runs in the fifth. Shandi Winstead doubled to left center scoring Amanda Cruddas and McLeod.

Celese Tirres got the complete game win for Howard Payne giving up four runs on six hits and striking out three. Muniz was 3-for-4 from the plate and McLeod finished 2-for-3.

Game two would finish with the same score as game one 7-4. This time the Lady Jackets would get two runs in the second, third and sixth innings.

Rushing recorded the win throwing five innings. Tirres came in relief and recorded the save. McLeod, Coffin and Eaton each would finish with two hits.

Howard Payne now stands at 2-2 overall on the year, while Huston-Tillotson is 0-4 overall. The Lady Jackets will play next on Feb. 13-14 in Longview, Texas in a conference series versus LeTourneau University.
