PLAINVIEW, Texas - The Howard Payne softbal team scored two runs in extra innings of game two to split a double header 0-8 and 6-4 with LeTourneau University Friday afternoon.

The Lady Jackets were held to just two hits in game one of their double header with LeTourneau. Howard Payne allowed three runs in the first and second innings and two in the fifth.

Celese Tirres allowed eight runs on 14 hits in the loss. Erin McLeod and Adrienne Sanchez each recorded hits for the Lady Jackets.

After Letu took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first in game two, Howard Payne would gain the lead with four runs in the top of the third. 

Kennedy Coffin scored on an error by the right fielder. Then Shandi Winstead doubled down the left field line to score Tayler Rushing and Gaby Muniz. Erin McLeod, who had earlier reached on the error, would score on a passed ball.

LeTourneau tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the inning where the game would remain till the Howard Payne top of the eighth.

Winstead singled to center field to bring home McLeod. Then with the bases loaded, Allison Eaton reached on a fielding error by third baseman sending Winstead to score.

Tayler Rushing threw three innings in the start allowing four runs on six hits. Tirres came in and worked the final five inings allowing just two hits and striking out three.

Howard Payne is now 3-3 overall and LeTourneau stands at 5-2 overall. The Lady Jackets wil play a single game with Letu on Saturday at 11:00 am to finish out the weekend series.
