BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne men's basketball team outrebounded the University of the Ozarks by 18 to post an 81-74 conference victory Thursday evening in the Brownwood Coliseum.
Despite Ozarks shooting 53% from the field in the first half, the Yellow Jackets would only trail 37-35 at the break. Howard Payne outrebounded Ozarks 22-15, 12 of which were on the offensive glass.
Ozarks again would shoot 50% from the field in the second half, but the Howard Payne offensive rebounding proved to be the difference in the game. 25 of the Jackets 47 rebounds were on the offensive glass.
Ty Davis and
Rickey Guillory each finished with 18 points and seven rebounds for the Jackets.,
Sterling Smoak scored 12 off the bench.
Brandon Gould had a game high four assists.
Ted Beard IV finished with a game high 23 points for Ozarks. Kelby Robinson had 18 and Jace Richardson added 12.
Howard Payne sits in a three way tie for third place in the American Southwest Conference standings at 10-10 overall and 10-5 in league play. Ozarks is now 8-13 overall and 4-12 in conference. The Jackets play next on Saturday at home versus the University of Texas at Tyler starting at 3:00 pm.
