KERRVILLE, Texas - The Howard Payne softball team won game one 5-2 and scored in extra innings to defeat Schreiner University 13-12 in game two Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.

Erin McLeod was huge in the double header wins going 6-of-9 from the plate with seven RBIs in game two. McLeod had three doubles and a grand slam homerun on the day with no strikeouts. Her seven RBIs in game two tied the ASC record for RBIs in a game.

In Wednesday's second game of a doubleheader, the Lady Jackets would lead 8-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth., Schreiner scored five times to close the gap., HPU was unfazed, adding a grand slam by Erin McLeod in the top of the seventh to seemingly cruise to the finish., Schreiner responded again scoring five more runs in the bottom of the inning.,

After an Amanda Cruddas singled to right field and advanced to second an error, Adrienne Sanchez had a sac but to push,Cruddas to third. Finally, an Allison,Eaton sacrifice fly to left field scored Cruddas for the eventual game winning run.

Celese Tirres got the victory throwing the last 1.1 innings of the game.

In the opener, Howard Payne scored twice in the fourth on a two RBI single from Tirres. Schreiner would evened the score in the sixth inning., But the top of the sixth the Lady Jackets would put the game away scoring three.

Celese Tirres go the complete game victory for game one giving up two runs on seven hits and striking out two. She is now 4-6 on the year.

Howard Payne improves to 6-9 overall and Schreiner falls to 3-5 overall. The Lady Jackets will play this weekend in Richardson, Texas versus the University of Texas at Dallas for a conference series. Friday double header will start at 2:00 pm and Saturday single will begin at 12:00 noon.
