BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne baseball team scored three runs in the eighth to pull within one but fell in the end 4-3 to the University of Texas at Dallas Friday afternoon in conference action.

Howard Payne was out hit 11-5 by UT-Dallas and committed two fielding errors in the game.

After UT-Dallas scored two in the top of the eighth to go up 4-0, the Yellow Jackets rallied to pull within one 4-3 in the bottom of the frame. Brandon Garrett doubled down the left line to score Cody Cain. Next, Will Roberts doubled to left center to score Garrett. Finally, John Elmore grounded out to the shortstop to plate Dustin DeJohn who had reached earlier on a walk.

Jacob Spivey got the loss (1-3) in the start for Howard Payne throwing seven innings. Spivey struckout three and walked just one giving up two runs on eight hits. Zach Moseley and Dustin Kelver each saw one inning in relief for the Jackets.

The two teams will play a double header on Saturday starting at 12:00 noon to finish out their conference series.
