TYLER, Texas - The Howard Payne baseball team fell 6-0 and 12-2 in a conference double header with the University of Texas at Tyler Saturday afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets were held to just one hit in game one of the double header.
A Brandon Garrett single to center field would be the only hit in the game for the Jackets.,Howard Payne fell 6-0 allowing two runs in the first, third and sixth innings.,
Jacob Spivey got the complete game loss allowing six runs on nine hits and striking out five. Spivey is now 2-7 on the year.
UT-Tyler jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first but the Jackets responded with two runs in the second to pull to within one.
Walker Dailey was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score
Jacob Cowling. Then Jake,Sadler grounded out to second base allowing
Connor Roberts to score.
It would be all UT-Tyler from there with them scoring runs in the multiple runs in three more innings,
Shae Edmonds moved to 2-6 with the loss in the start allowing eight runs on nine hits in four innings of work.
Shawn Brody and
Dustin Kelver each saw two innings of work in relief.
Cody Brown and
Cody Cain each finished with two hits in the game for the Jackets.
Howard Payne is now 12-22 overall and 7-18 in American Southwest Conference play. UT-Tyler stands at 29-10 overall and 23-6 in league action. The two teams will finish out their series on Sunday with a single game starting at 1:00 pm.
