ABILENE, Texas - Howard Payne's Courtney Turner netted the game winner seconds into the second overtime to defeat McMurry University 2-1 in the Lady Jackets season opener Tuesday evening.

Courtney Turner hit a shot over the McMurry keeper's head just 42 seconds into the second overtime period to claim the victory for the Lady Jackets. It was the first goal of the season for Turner and the fifth of her career.,

Howard Payne got on the scoreboard first when Brittany Davis scored on a Turner assist in the 33rd minute. McMurry tied the match in the 67th minute on a direct kick goal from the right side. The Lady Jackets would then secure the 2-1 victory with the Turner golden goal in overtime.

Despite the close score, Howard Payne dominated the stats outshooting McMurry 22-4 in the match.,

Dayane Gutierrez and Turner each had four shots with Davis following with three. Kelsie Piland played the entire first half in goal before Shelby Spaulding allowed one score in 21:42 minutes of action in the second period. Nicole Goodwin came in and played the remaining time in goal recording the win.

The Lady Jackets will played next at home on Friday, September 11 at 1:00 pm versus Schreiner University.
