LONGVIEW, Texas – The Howard Payne men's soccer team defeated East Texas Baptist University 2-1 to improve to 2-2 on the season Saturday evening.

The Jackets got on the board early after Reid Longabaugh picked up his second goal of the season from a Tyrone Davis cross in the 2nd minute of the game. ETBU answered back in the 25th minute with a goal, but it was Alex Sanchez securing the victory in the 84th minute after he curved a free kick over the keepers head for the score, picking up his first goal of the season. Sanchez along with Shay Pate and Ruben Lemus each had two shots in the match. Allan Chehadi had three saves and allowed one goal in 90 minutes of play and is now 2-2 on the year.

ETBU's lone goal came from David Jackson in the 25th minute. Zacary Gonzalez added two shots. Brett Forbus and Jose Vega each had a shot on goal.

The Jackets out-shot ETBU 16-8 with seven of those shots being on goal. Howard Payne also picked up seven corners without allowing a corner to ETBU.

Howard Payne is now 2-2 on the season. ETBU sits at 0-6 overall. The Jackets will be back in action on Friday, September 25th for their conference opener against Concordia University Texas at 7:00 pm.
