BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne women's' soccer team dropped its conference opener six to one against the University of Texas at Dallas on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

The beginning of the match looked even, despite a UT-Dallas goal in the 11th minute, but after a 2 hour lightning delay, the teams returned and the Lady Jackets began to struggle offensively.

Courtney Turner scored the lone goal in the 46th minute, her 2nd for the season and 6th in her career. Turner finished with 3 shots in the match. Key players on the defense included Tyla Tipton, Kaitlyn Harrison, Alex Bernal, and Vanessa Albert, all who played the majority of the game. Senior Kelsie Piland recorded 8 saves in 90 minutes of play, her most this season. Piland is now 1-2 on the season.

UT-Dallas came out fast with multiple shots, constantly working the Lady Jacket defenders and Pieland. Megan Mugavero scored early with assistance by Rachel Mullen. The  remaining 5 goals would come in the 25th, 30th, 53rd, and 72nd minutes, with their last coming with only 55 seconds outstanding.

Howard Payne is now 1-3-0 overall and 0-1 in conference play. UT-Dallas moves to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in conference. The Lady Jackets will play next on September 26th, in Austin at Concordia University Texas at 5:00 pm.
