BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne men's soccer team gave up a late goal and fell to Schreiner University 1-0 Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.
Howard Payne and Schreiner were evened up at 0-0 at the midway point with both teams taking three shots each. But it was the second half that Schreiner got off nine shots to HPU's five and took six corner kicks to none for the Jackets.
Corner kicks were the difference in the game as the Mountaineers were able to score on their sixth corner of the half. Schreiner's Robert Hensley followed up a deflection to score in the 81st minute.Â
Schreiner was led by Gregg Gutierrez with five shots, all on goal.Shay Pate lead the Jackets with three shots, two on goal.
Dylan Person also took two shots on goal for HPU.
Allan Chehadi recorded the loss for HPU recording saves in 90 minutes of play in goal.
Howard Payne is now 0-2-0 on the year and Schreiner stands at 2-2-0 overall. The Jackets will play next on September 18th at LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas at 7:00 pm.
