BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne University men's basketball team used balanced scoring with four players in double digits to defeat Belhaven University 72-64 Saturday afternoon at the Brownwood Coliseum.
Despite Belhaven shooting 50% from the field in the first half, Howard Payne would hold a 39-34 halftime advantage outrebounding the Blazers 22-13 in the opening period.
The Yellow Jackets used an 8-0 run midway through the second half to lead by twelve with just under five minutes to play. A three-point play by
Rickey Guillory gave the Jackets a 62-50 lead with 4:51 left in regulation.
DJ Gardner led the Jackets with 17 points off the bench.
Khyce Randall followed with 14 points and six rebounds.

Volney Willis each had 11 points.
J Bailey grabbed a game high 10 rebounds.
Belhaven was led by Josh Gaskins with 15 points. Jack Griffiths had 12 points and Josh Carpenter and De'la Mayers each added 11.
It was the third consecutive win for the Jackets and the fifth win out of the last seven games.
Howard Payne is now 5-9 overall and Belhaven stands at 2-10 overall on the year. The Jackets will play next on Thursday at home versus Hardin Simmons University at 7:30 pm.
