BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne University volleyball team fell in four sets 3-1 versus the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday afternoon at the Brownwood Coliseum.
The Lady Jackets fell behind early but rallied back to take the second set and push the Crusaders to a four set match. Mary Hardin-Baylor was able to use their height to overwhelm Howard Payne at the net, eventually taking the match 3-1 (13-25, 25-21, 11-25, 21-25.)
After coming out flat and falling 25-13 in the first set, the Yellow Jackets rebounded by taking the second set 25-21. However, after dropping the third set 25-11 they were unable to steal back the momentum and fell 25-21 in the fourth set.
Howard Payne was held to .021 attack percentage.The Lady Jackets mounted a run in the fourth set and had an opportunity to force a fifth set but was met with strong play from the Cru.
The Yellow Jackets received some fine play from
Shelbie Harry who finished the game with 10 kills and three blocks on the day. Kailey Doering added seven kills and Analisa Anzaldua led all players with 20 digs.
The loss snapped Howard Payne's two game winning streak and dropped their record to 6-9 on the season and 3-4 in American Southwest Conference play. UMHB now stands at 13-5 overall and 7-2 in league action.
After their four game home-stand, the Jackets will now head back out on the road to face off against Sul Ross State. The match is slated to begin at 6:00 pm on October 11th. Live video and stats will be available http://www.sidearmstats.com/sulross/wvball/
