PINEVILLE, Louisiana - The Howard Payne University baseball team fell 5-4 in their conference series opener with Louisiana College Friday evening.

Three fielding errors by the Yellow Jackets proved to be the difference in the game with the last coming in the bottom of the ninth. 

A Will Roberts RBI single to left field and later a passed ball with a runner on third would give Howard Payne a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. LC answered with a single run in the bottom of the inning and another run in the third to tie the game at 2-2.

After LC took a 3-2 advantage in the fifth, a two-run homer by Brent Quackenbush gave HPU the lead back 4-3. LC then tied the game in the bottom of the inning and took the game with the HPU error in the bottom of the ninth.

Walker Dailey was 2-for-3 from the plate for Howard Payne. Kyle Ramon when six innings in the start giving up three runs on six hits. Ramon struckout nine. Zach Moseley got the loss in relief throwing two innings allowing two runs on three hits and striking out four.

Howard Payne is now 3-2 overall and Louisiana College stands at 3-7 overall. The two teams will continue their series on Saturday with a double header starting at 1:00 pm.
