TYLER, Texas – The Howard Payne University women's basketball team held off a later surge by LeTourneau University to win 82-75 in the second round of the American Southwest Conference Tournament.
Post Game Press ConferenceAfter leading by 19 points late in the third quarter, Howard Payne (18-9) the held off a late rally by LeTourneau (17-10) in the fourth to claim a spot in the ASC championship game. The Lady Jackets will be in the championship for the first time since 2011 and will be vying for the school's sixth ASC Championship.
Howard Payne held LeTourneau to just 27% shooting in the first half and outscored them 22-11 in the second quarter to lead 41-24 at the half.
A 20-4 run by LeTourneau starting midway through the fourth made the score 75-73 with 1:33 left to play. The Lady Jackets buckled down and outscored Letu 7-2 to close out the game.

27-9 in points off turnovers.Danyel Bradley led all scorers with 34 points along with seven rebounds.
Jessica Leaks followed with 16 points and four assists.
Presley McKethan dished out a game high five assists.
Sarahi Castillo had 13 points and seven rebounds.
Ashley Caldwell finished with six blocks.
LeTourneau was led by Crystal Jones with 18 points. Ashley Stephens had 12 points and 13 rebounds. LaTanya Drakes added 19 points and 15 rebounds.
Howard Payne will take on tournament host University of Texas at Tyler Saturday at 4:00 pm for the American Southwest Conference championship.
