2016-2017:  As an ASC All-Defensive Team selection, Matlock finished the season with an ASC best 3.9 steals per game, good for seventh place nationally while leading Howard Payne in minutes played (32.6 per game.) She scored a career-high 22 points in a contest vs. Concordia and finished the season with a 10.4 points per game average.

2015-2016: Played in 25 of Howard Payne's 28 games, averaging 12.4 minutes per game. Matlock had a career high 13 points on 6-10 shooting during the American Southwest Conference championship game. She finished the season averaging 2.9 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game. 

High School: A native of Azle, Texas, Valerie graduated from Azle High School in 2015. She played three years of varsity softball and basketball while also participating in cross country. She helped lead her basketball team to an Area Championship while also being recognized as a District Defensive MVP. She was also a first team All-District selection in basketball and softball.
