ABILENE, Texas – The Howard Payne University women's basketball team led from start to finish in an 85-66 conference victory over Hardin-Simmons University Saturday afternoon at the Mabee Athletic Complex.
In the first half, the Lady Jackets held the Cowgirls to just 28% shooting while shooting 51% themselves to gain a 41-18 advantage at the halftime break.
Hardin-Simmons battled back to within seven points with just under six minutes left in the fourth. The Lady Jackets shut the door on the Cowgirls opportunity outscoring Hardin-Simmons 16-4 in the last five minutes to claim the 85-66 victory. The Lady Jackets extend their win streak to nine games with the win.
Howard Payne forced 19 HSU turnovers while only committing eight themselves. The Lady Jackets scored 35 points off turnovers compared to just nine for the Cowgirls.
Danyel Bradley led all scorers with 30 points, 10 assists and seven steals, Bradley was 6-of-7 from the free-throw line.
Presley McKethan scored a career high 20 points on 7-of-8 shooting, 6-of-7 from behind the arc.
Sarahi Castillo had 14 points and 11 rebounds off the bench for HPU.
HSU was led by Addison Garcia and Madison Spears with 14 points each. Kayla Holyfield added 12 points and 14 rebounds.
Howard Payne is now 14-8 overall and 8-3 in American Southwest Conference play. Hardin-Simmons stands at 9-13 overall and 6-6 in league action. The Lady Jackets will be at home on Thursday versus Concordia University Texas at 5:30 pm.
