JACKSON, Mississippi - After dropping the first two games 0-9 and 2-13 to Belhaven University, the Howard Payne University softball team rebounded taking the series finale 1-0 Saturday afternoon.
Friday's double header did not go well for the Lady Jackets losing game one 0-9 and game two 2-13, both in five innings. Howard Payne did not go away taking game three of the series 1-0 on Saturday.
Game One
It was the six-run sixth for Belhaven to put the game out of reach for Howard Payne. The Lady Jackets were held to just one hit, that being by
Celina Ortiz in the first innings.
Celese Tirres got the loss in the start going the first two innings allowing two runs on three hits.
Tayler Rushing threw the final two frames allowing seven runs on nine hits.
Game Two
Belhaven opened up a 6-0 lead after two before the Lady Jackets got on the board in the third.Â
Celina Ortiz reached on a fielding error by second baseman allowing
Rachel Hitt to score, 6-1 Belhaven. Belhaven then extended its lead to 13-1 after four with Howard Payne scoring its second run of the game in the fifth on aÂ

Rachel Hitt finished the game 3-for-3 from the plate scoring twice.
Celese Tirres (10-15) recorded the loss in the start allowing six runs on six hits in two innings of work.
Tayler Rushing and
Rachel Jackson each threw one frame in relief.
Game Three
The Saturday single game turned out differently for the Lady Jackets with
Celese Tirres (11-15) picking up her 11th victory of the season in the circle. In the complete game win, Tirres allowed just four hits with had two strike outs.Â

Gaby Muniz led HPU at the plate going 2-for-4.
Howard Payne is now 13-19 overall on the year. Belhaven now stands at 25-6 overall. The Lady Jackets will play at home next weekend versus Concordia University Texas. A Friday double header starting at 1:00 pm and a Saturday single game beginning at 11:00 am. The Howard Payne senior players will be recognized after the game,
