AUSTIN, Texas - The Howard Payne University volleyball team pushed Hutson-Tillotson University to the limit falling five sets 3-2 (16-25,26-24,14-25,25-21,6-15) in the Lady Jackets season opener Thursday evening.
After dropping the first set 16-25, the Lady Jackets relayed to take the second set 26-24. Huston-Tillotson then responded by winning the third set 14-25.
The Lady Jackets used their best hitting of the night (.171) in the 4th to claim the set 25-21. In the 5th, it was all HTU as the Rams used .400 hitting in the final set to secure the set 15-6 and the match 3-2.
Shelbie Harry led all hitters with 15 kills (.250).
Kailey Doering followed with 11 kills.
Cheyanne Lovelady had a well rounded match with four kills, 23 assists, two service aces and 11 digs.
Analisa Anzaldua finished with a match high 24 digs and
Brittany Taylor added four service aces and 11 digs.
Howard Payne will play next on Sept. 9-10 at the Texas Lutheran University tournament in Seguin, Texas. The Lady Jackets will play Linfield College on Friday the 9th and Lewis and Clark and Schreiner on Saturday the 10th. HPU will have its home opener on Tuesday, Sept. 13th at 7:00 pm versus St. Mary's University of San Antonio.Â
