BROWNWOOD, Texas- The Howard Payne University Men's Soccer team played host to East Texas Baptist University today in what was their final non-conference matchup before ASC play begins next week.
After falling behind 3-0 in the first half, The Yellow Jackets got one goal on the board before eventually falling 3-1. Scoring each of their three goals in the first half, ETBU controlled the possession and the tempo early. They were able to get goals in the 10th, 34th and 43rd minutes to go up 3-0 and help put HPU in the hole early. Â
The Yellow Jackets came out of the half intent on chipping away at the Tigers lead. They pushed the tempo and threatened to score in the 42nd minute before taking a foul in the box.
Tracer Moore took the penalty kick and footed a beautifully placed ball deep into the left side of the net. Â
It was the first time HPU was able to get on the board during the match and it came in the 41st minute of the second half. After collecting two yellow cards from the Jackets, ETBU would eventually settle down and take control of possession and close out the game.Â
Despite outshooting the Tigers 16-9, Howard Payne could only get one goal past the Tigers' keeper. Josue Vasquez collected three shots, two of them on frame during 90 minutes of complete play.
Tracer Moore collected his first goal on the season and
Dylan Person also played a complete game, tallying two shots on goal.Â
The Yellow Jackets will now play host to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at Citizens National Bank Field on Thursday, September 22nd. Game time is set for 4:00 pm and all men's and women's soccer games are free to attend.
