Lady Jackets Down Belhaven in three

AUSTIN, Texas – The Lady Jackets took down Belhaven University in three sets today (26-24, 25-14, 25-23) to finish 1-1 at the ASC Crossover this weekend. Howard Payne has now won three of their last four games. 

Trailing by as much as seven points in the first set, the Lady Jackets rallied back behind the strong play of Kailey Doering who checked in and strung together three consecutive kills to help Howard Payne pull ahead in the set. The Jackets finished the set up 26-24 after Belhaven had a late rally of their own.
 
The second set was an entirely different situation though as Howard Payne was able to hold the Blazers to a –0.56 attack percentage. They used a complete team effort on offense, collecting 10 kills while receiving three service aces from Cheyanne Lovelady to pull away 25-14. 

Belhaven came into the third set with some fight and reeled off three consecutive points to pull ahead early. Alyssa Beasely and Kailey Doering answered right back with five consecutive kills. The set was back and forth the rest of the way until Shelbie Harry came up with a timely kill and the Tornados were unable to answer back. Finishing with an attack error and a ball handling error to give Howard Payne the set, 25-23. 

The Lady Jackets dominated net play by leading Belhaven in blocks, 10-2. They finished with a .114 attack percentage while holding the Blazers to a -.021 attack percentage. Shelbie Harry led all players with 10 kills while Kailey Doering and Kailey Alyssa Beasely chipped in nine and seven kills respectively on the day. 

Zhartezia Bradley led Howard Payne with seven blocks and Shlebie Harry had seven to add to her impressive game performance. Cheyanne Lovelady led all players in assists with 32 while Analisa Anzaldua had 25 digs to also lead all players. 

The Lady Jackets will now return home for the first of four consecutive home appearances. They face McMurray on Tuesday, September 27th at 7:00 pm in the Brownwood Coliseum. Attendance at all home games is free and open to the public.
