ALPINE, Texas - The Howard Payne University volleyball team needed five sets to defeat conference opponent Sul Ross State University Tuesday evening at the Gallego Center.

With Howard Payne picking up the first set 25-21 each team would alternate sets (25-21,23-25,26-24,23-25) till the Lady Jackets claimed the fifth set.

The Lady Jackets led 10-9 in the fifth when Sul Ross committed three consecutive hitting errors along with an ace and kill by Howard Payne to claim the final set 15-9 and the match 3-2.

Macy Maniscalo led HPU with 13 kills followed by Jordan Rogers and Zhartezia Bradley with 12 each. Zhartezia Bradley dominated the net recording nine total blocks. 

Cheyanne Lovelady led with a match high 51 assists and Jordan Livingston finished with 44 digs.

Howard Payne is now  7-11 overall and 5-4 in American Southwest Conference action. Sul Ross State stands at 2-17 overall and 0-9 in conference play. The Lady Jackets will play next on Friday at Concordia Texas in Austin at 6:00 pm.
