AUSTIN, Texas - The Howard Payne University women's soccer team could not match Concordia Texas's two second period goals in a 3-1 conference loss Saturday evening.
With the score tied at 1-1 at the break, Concordia Texas scored goals in the 78th and 81st minutes to secure the match 3-1.
After a Concordia score in the fourth minute, HPU's Kaitlyn Harrison answered netting a goal off a corner kick in the 22nd minute.
Dayane Gutierrez and
Morgan Patterson were awarded assists on the score.
Concordia led in total shots 25-12 overall but the match was much closer with the Lady Jackets trailing 9-6 in shots on goal.
Lesly Garcia led HPU with three shots and Kaitlyn Harrison,
Rachel Crane and
Jada Austin each had two shots, Harrison's were both on goal.
Nicole Goodwin played all 90 minutes in goal recording six saves and allowing the three goals.
Howard Payne is now 4-5-1 overall and 3-4-0 in American Southwest Conference play. Concordia stands at 8-5-0 overall and 4-4-0 in league action. The Lady Jackets will play next at home on Thursday, Oct. 12th versus McMurry University at 1:00 pm.
