NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Howard Payne University's
De'Marcus Hurd led the Yellow Jackets with 23 points in a 118-64 exhibition loss to Stephen F. Austin State University Saturday afternoon.
De'Marcus Hurd was 5 of 6 from behind the arc and 8 of 13 from the field to lead the Jackets with 23 points.
Khyce Randall followed with 11 points and four assists.
A big factor in the game was the size advantage for Stephen F. Austin outrebounding Howard Payne 40-22. SFA also forced 38 Yellow Jacket turnovers.
The game remained close at the start with the Jackets only trailing nine, 40-31 with 5:53 left in the first half. SFA ended the opening period with a 15-0 run to lead 63-35 at the half.
Shadd Cole finished the game going 8 of 8 from the free-throw line along with two steals. Freshman Timothy Aguero scored seven off the bench for HPU going 3 of 6 from the floor.
Howard Payne will play next on Tuesday, Nov. 21st at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. It will be a 7:00 pm start time.
