SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Howard Payne University men's basketball team lost in overtime to Trinity University 92-90 Tuesday evening.
HPU's DeMarcus Hurd hit a layup at the end of regulation to forced overtime but Howard Payne would go 2 of 6 from the field and 0 of 3 from behind the arc in overtime to fall 92-90.
The Yellow Jackets held a 15 point advantage with 15:31 left to play but a 12-0 Trinity run midway through the second half allowed the Tigers to get back in the game.
The Jackets won the rebounding battle 48-41 but 25 HPU turnovers proved to be a big factor in the game.
The Jackets were led by Khyce Randall with 25 points and a game high 13 rebounds. Randall was 12 of 13 from the free throw. Hurd followed with 23 points on 9 of 19 shooting from the field.
Colton Otts finished with 13 points and Darren Farmer added 11 points.
Thomas Bingham in his first action of the season grabbed nine rebounds.
Trinity was led by Danny Rivara with 30 points and 12 rebounds.
Howard Payne is now 2-0 on the year and Trinity stands at 2-2 overall. The Jackets will travel to Memphis, TN this next weekend to play in the Rhodes College Tournament Nov. 25-26.
