PINEVILLE, LA - The Howard Payne University men's basketball team used a late push to claim a 72-65 conference victory over Louisiana College Saturday afternoon on the road.

With the Yellow Jackets down by one with four minutes remaining, a three point bucket by Shadd Cole and back to back layups by freshman Timothy Aguero gave the Jackets the lead they needed. Cole and Khyce Randall would combine to go 6 for 6 at the free-throw line down the stretch to secure the win.

Howard Payne out rebounded Louisiana College 48-41 but it was the Jackets presence in the paint offensively that played a major factor scoring 44 points to LC's 27. 

HPU was led by Timothy Aguero with 16 points on 8 of 10 shooting. Shadd Cole followed with 15 points on 5 of 7 shooting. Cole was 4 of 4 at the line all in the closing minute of the game. Khyce Randall finished with 12 points and 16 rebounds.

Devon Washington led Louisiana College with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Lashard Powell followed with 12 points.

Howard Payne is now 4-5 overall and 2-2 in American Southwest Conference action. Louisiana College stands at 1-6 overall and 0-4 in league play. The Jackets will be at the Texas Lutheran University tournament in Seguin, Texas on Dec 19-20 facing Texas Lutheran on Tuesday at 5:00 pm and Schreiner on Wed. at 3:00 pm.
