BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University women's tennis team picked up its first win of the season with a 8-1 victory over LeTourneau University Friday at the Nabers Tennis Center.

Howard Payne swept the doubles points 8-4, 9-7 and 8-0 and used set tie-breakers in the number two and three singles to claim its first women's tennis victory of the season.

Brittony Walker defeated LeTourneau's Rachel Morisseau 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 in number two singles play and Erin McCleer downed Letu's Terin Murray 6-4, 7-6 (10-8) in number three singles.

With HPU only falling in number one single action 6-3, 7-5, Chesney Goza rounded out another highly competitive match taking Letu's Lauren Rockwell to three sets winning 6-1, 2-6, 10-4 in number four singles action.

Howard Payne will play next on Sat., March 11th at the John Newcombe Tennis Ranch in New Braunfels, Texas versus Texas Lutheran University at 6:00 pm. The Lady Jackets will play Hendrix College on Sunday, March 12th at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin , Texas.
