BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University women's tennis team wrapped up the regular season with an 8-1 victory over Sul Ross State University Saturday afternoon at the Nabers Tennis Center.

With the 8-1 victory the Lady Jackets secured a spot in the American Southwest Conference women's tennis championships on April 27-29 in Abilene, Texas. 

Down a couple of players, Sul Ross State was outgunned by Howard Payne as the Lady Jackets took all three doubles points, 8-0, 8-0, and by default.

All the singles matches were decided in straight sets. In number one singles,  Alex Marlin defeated Sul Ross State's Annette Posada 6-0, 6-2 and in number three singles Callie Molloy was victorious over Sul Ross State's Melissa Posada 6-1, 6-4.

The Lady Jackets would only drop the number two singles point to the Lobos.

The 2017 ASC women's tennis championship will be hosted by Hardin-Simmons University, top-seed in the West Division. Matches begin with quarterfinals on Thursday (April 27). Semifinal play is Friday (April 28) and the final on Saturday (April 29). All matches are scheduled at Streich Tennis Center on the HSU campus in Abilene, Texas. Full tournament information will be released on Sunday.
