CLARKSVILLE, AR - The Howard Payne University men's soccer team recorded its first shutout of the season in a 1-0 conference victory over the University of the Ozarks Thursday afternoon.
In a match that featured each team recording 12 fouls and a total of eight yellow cards and one red card given out, the match was a defensive battle that both team wanted to win.
Howard Payne got the only goal it would need in the 14th minute by Daniel Lemus on an assist fromÂ
Alejandro Molina. It was Lemus' second goal of the season after scoring a late game winner versus Texas Wesleyan at home last week.
Andrew Hackney played solid in goal for the Jackets gaining five saves in 90 minutes for the victory. Lemus led with two shots, both on goal, and six other Jackets would record a shot in the match.
Howard Payne is now 3-0-0 overall and 1-0-0 in American Southwest Conference action. Ozarks stands at 3-2-0 overall and 0-1-0 in league play. The Jackets will play next on Saturday in Tyler, Texas versus the University of Texas at Tyler at 2:00 pm.
