CLARKSVILLE, AR - The Howard Payne University women's soccer team used a late goal by
Lesly Garcia to secure a 3-2 conference victory over the previously undefeated University of the Ozarks Thursday afternoon.
The Lady Jackets gained a 2-0 1st period advantage due to goals by
Rachel Crane in the 19th minute and Lesly Garcia just a 1:22 later in the 20th minute. Crane's goal was a one on one with the keeper shot on an assist by Dayane Gutierrez and Garcia's came on a penalty kick.
Ozarks would fight back in the second period tying the match at 2-2 with goals in the 64th and 72nd minutes.
It would be Lesly Garcia on a breakaway with 1:25 left in regulation that would give HPU the game winner on an assist fromÂ

Howard Payne was outshot 15-102 overall but HPU led in shots on goal 8-6. The Lady Jackets did take three corner kicks to Ozark's one.
Nicole Goodwin got the victory in goal recording four saves and allowing two goals in 90 minutes of work.
Howard Payne is now 2-1-1 overall and 1-0-0 in American Southwest Conference play. Ozarks stands at 4-1-0 overall and 0-1-0 in league action. The Lady Jackets will play next on Saturday in Tyler, Texas versus the University of Texas at Tyler at 2:00 pm.
