BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University men's soccer team drops to 2-2 in conference play with a 1-0 loss to Belhaven University Saturday afternoon at Citizens National Bank Field.
Despite outshooting Belhaven 18-12 overall and gaining a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks, the Jackets fell 1-0 after a Belhaven goal in the 69th minute. It was a hard shot off the crossbar that was followed up for the score.
Tracer Moore led with five shots followed by Daniel Lemus with four, two on goal and Collin Saylers with three, two on goal.
Giving up just the one goal, keeper
Nicholas Panameno played solid recording six saves in 90 minutes of action.
Howard Payne is now 4-2-0 overall and 2-2-0 in American Southwest Conference action. Belhaven falls to 1-4-3 overall and 1-2-0 in league play. The Jackets will play next on Sept. 28 at East Texas Baptist in Marshall, Texas at 7:30 pm before going to the University of Texas at Dallas in Richardson, Texas on Saturday, Sept. 30h. The UT Dallas match will start at 7:30 pm.
