MARSHALL, Texas - The Howard Payne University men's soccer dropped a non-conference matchup with East Texas Baptist University Thursday evening Cornish Field.
Howard Payne held a 2-1 advantage midway through the first period but three unanswered goals by East Texas Baptist would eventually give the Tigers the 4-3 win.
After an ETBU score in the 16th minute, the Jackets would get a goal from 
Jorge Gutierrez-Field on a 
Roger Bonilla assist in the 21st minute. It was Gutierrez-Field's first goal of the season.
The Yellow Jackets took a 201 lead in the 27th minute on a Jonpaul Vargus goal on a unassisted straight away shot. ETBU then tied the match at 2-2 less than a minute later.
Just under three minutes into the second period, ETBU took the lead scoring off a corner kick. ETBU ould then extend its lead in the 51st minute on a penalty kick score.
The Jackets made a push and pulled to within one on a 
Tracer Moore goal in the 67th minute scoring from inside the box. It was Moore's third goal of the season.
Howard Payne was outshot 17-8 overall but tied the Tigers in shots on goal at 7-7 in the match. ETBU did lead in corner kicks 8-5.
Moore led the Jackets in shots with three, two on goal. 
David Jaramillo-Alejo got the loss in the start in goal for HPU. He recorded three saves and allowed four goals in 90 minutes of action.
Howard Payne is now 4-3 overall and ETBU stands at 4-5-1 on the year. The Jackets will play next on the road at The University of Texas at Dallas on Saturday, Sept. 30th at 7:30 pm.
