BROWNWOOD, Texas - Howard Payne University freshman
Jada Austin scores two goals to lift the Lady Jackets past Belhaven University 2-1 Saturday afternoon at Citizens National Bank Field.
HPU's Jada Austin two first period goals gave the Lady Jackets all they needed to pick up a 2-1 conference victory over Belhaven University.
Austin netted her first goal of the match in the 20th minute on a Dayane Gutierrez assist. Then just five minutes late, Austin scored again this time on a
Kacie Masters assist in the 25th minute.
The Lady Jackets would give up a goal in the 66th minute but held defensively for the 2-1 victory.
Goal keeper
Nicole Goodwin picked up the victory recording five saves and allowing just one goal in 90 minutes of action.
Lesly Garcia led with four shots, one on goal followed by Kacie Masters with three and Dayane Gutierrez with two, one on goal.
Howard Payne is now 4-2-1 overall and 3-1-0 in American Southwest Conference action. Belhaven falls to 2-5-1 overall and 1-2-0 in league play. The Lady Jackets will play next on Sept. 30 at the University of Texas at Dallas in Richardson, Texas. The match will start at 5:00 pm.
