ALPINE, Texas - The Howard Payne University women's basketball team defeated conference opponent Sul Ross State University 64-48 Saturday afternoon.

Howard Payne held Sul Ross to just 26% shooting from the field and forced 26 turnovers while cruising to the 64-48 victory. The Lady Jackets had some struggles of their own, shooting just 33.3% from the field.

Valarie Matlock led all scorers with 23 points and seven steals. Anastasia Willis grabbed a game high 15 rebounds along with eight points. Dijimonii Jackson had 12 points off the bench along with four steals. 

Sul Ross was led by Erica Powell with 10 points and Taylor Gass with 11 rebounds.

Howard Payne now stands at 10-6 overall and 6-2 in American Southwest Conference play. Sul Ross falls to 5-11 overall and 3-5 in league action. The Lady Jackets will play at home next Thursday versus Hardin-Simmons at 5:30 pm.
