Jackets Defeat Pirates 93-88

GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Howard Payne University men's basketball team scored 55 second half points to down Southwestern University 93-88 Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.

Down 42-38 at the half, the Yellow Jackets outscored the Pirates by nine in the second period to claim the game. The Jackets shot 48% (32 of 67) from the field and 41% (9 of 22) from behind the arc while holding Southwestern to just 39% from the floor.

With the game tied at 64-64 midway through the second half, the Jackets put together an 8-2 run to give themselves a lead that they would not relinquish. A Shadd Cole layup and Khyce Randall dunk in the closing minute gave the Jackets the distance to secure the victory.

Khyce Randall finished with a game high 25 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. Shadd Cole followed with 15 points, going 7 of  8 from the free-throw line along with six rebounds. De'Marcus Hurd added 15 points. Cole Bene' grabbed seven rebounds.

Southwestern was led by Ryan Wheeler with 24 points and Ryan Ogden with 18 points and nine rebounds.

Howard Payne is now 6-6 overall and Southwestern stands at 4-7 on the year. The Yellow Jackets will next have a three-game home stand playing on Thursday versus UT Tyler at 7:30 pm, Saturday versus Ozarks at 4:00 pm and Monday versus East Texas Baptist at 7:30 pm.
