BROWNWOOD, Texas - Howard Payne University lost the battle on the boards and the game 83-70 to the University of Texas at Tyler Thursday evening in conference action.
The Yellow Jackets were out rebounded 48-39 and outscored 46-32 in points in the paint by the Patriots. Shooting pct. also played a big factor with the Jackets connecting on 38% of their shots to the Patriots 44%.
With Howard Payne holding a 41-38 halftime advantage, UT Tyler would outscore HPU 44-29 in the second period.
HPU's
Khyce Randall led all scorers with 22 points along with nine rebounds.
Timothy Aguero had 12 points and
De'Marcus Hurd added 10 points.
Shadd Cole grabbed eight rebounds.
UT Tyler was led by Johnell Lane with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Melvin Anthony had 15 points and Emeka Obukwelu finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Howard Payne is now 6-7 overall and 2-3 in American Southwest Conference play. UTT stands at 10-4 overall and 3-3 in league action. The Jackets will play the University of the Ozarks on Saturday at 4:00 pm.
