BROWNWOOD, Texas - Offensive struggles led to the Yellow Jackets falling in conference play at home vs. the McMurry Warhawks on Saturday evening.
Despite out rebounding McMurry 44-38, Howard Payne struggled shooting in the game connecting on just 35% of its shots and 26% from behind the arc. McMurry shot 49% from the field in the game.
Down 38-37 at the half, the Jackets were outscored by McMurry by nine in the second half in the 83-73 final. With HPU down two, 54-52 midway through the second half, McMurry put together a 9-0 to extend the lead to double digits.
Howard Payne was led by
Khyce Randall with 21 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Shadd Cole grabbed a game high 10 rebounds.
Zacc Carter and Luke Stephenson led McMurry with 23 points each followed by Larandall Scroggins with 15 points.
Howard Payne is now 7-11 overall and 3-7 in American Southwest Conference play. McMurry improves to 5-12 overall and 4-7 in league action. The Jackets will play next on Thurs., Jan. 25th at 7:30 pm in Belton, Texas versus Mary Hardin-Baylor.
