BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University men's basketball team evened up its overall and conference record with a 94-86 conference victory over the University of the Ozarks Saturday evening in the Brownwood Coliseum.
The Yellow Jackets grabbed 22 offensive rebounds and out rebounded Ozarks overall 48-37. The Howard Payne bench came up big in the game outscoring Ozarks' 42-5.
The Jackets would lead by as much as 15 points right before the halftime break, 44-32 Jackets at the half. Ozarks cut the Jacket lead to four, 88-84 with a minute left to play but a jumper by
Khyce Randall and four free-throws by
De'Marcus Hurd secured the game for Howard Payne.
Randall finished with 21 points, 15 rebounds and five assists. Hurd also had 21 points on 6 of 10 shooting, 3 of 3 from behind the arc and 6 of 7 from the free-throw line.
Drake Cooper and
Darren Farmer both came off the bench scoring 14 points each, Farmer added four assists.
Zach Bobo led Ozarks with a game high 23 points. Dylan Gray and Bryson Johnson each finished with 18 points.
Howard Payne is now 7-7 overall and 3-3 in American Southwest Conference action. Ozarks stands at 3-10 overall and 1-5 in league play. The Jackets will finish their current home stand on Monday with a game versus East Texas Baptist at 7:30 pm.
