BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University women's basketball team scored 49 second half points to post a 80-62 victory over conference opponent University of the Ozarks Saturday afternoon in the Brownwood Coliseum.
Howard Payne was 13 of 28 (46.4%) from behind the arc in the game. The Lady Jackets capitalized on their full court pressure in the third quarter scoring 30 points mostly off forced Ozarks turnovers.
After leading 31-25 at the half, the Lady Jackets pull away in the third opening the quarter with a 14-2 run.
Presley McKethan and
Valarie Matlock led the three-point shooting attack for Howard Payne. McKethan was 6 of 11 from behind the arc to finish with 18 points and five steals, Matlock was 4 of 8 from long range with 18 points and nine assists.
Anastasia Willis finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds and
Jada Evans added nine points.
Ozarks was led by Destinee Manning with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Diamond Goodwyn added 12 points.
Howard Payne is now 9-5 overall and 5-1 in American Southwest Conference action. Ozarks falls to 1-10 overall and 1-5 in league play. The Lady Jackets will finish their current home stand on Monday versus East Texas Baptist at 5:30 pm.
