BROWNWOOD, Texas- Howard Payne University woman's soccer team lost a vigorous fight in double overtime 1-2 this Sunday afternoon to Sul Ross State University at Gordon Wood Stadium.
Senior Lady Jacket,
Dayane Gutierrez was able to score the game-tying goal in the 34th minute of the game off a free kick. While the Lobos were able to score earlier in the 17th minute of the half, the result of a penalty kick. Ending the first half 1-1.
The Lobos come into the second half fighting getting off 15 shots throughout the half, after trailing behind HPU in shots 10-4 in the first. Both teams struggled to find the back of the net before running out of regulation time. Ending the second half 1-1.
In the first round of overtime, both teams were able to get two corner kicks, with the Lobos recording two shots. Ending the first overtime 1-1.
Sul Ross was able to score the game winning goal in the second minute of the second overtime, off a penalty kick being rewarded from a handball. Ending the tough match 1-2.
The Lady Jackets trailed closely behind the Lobos in total shots 18-24 (8-9 shots on goal) in the match, while taking the lead in corner kicks 8-6.
HPU's
Lesly Garcia was able to record a season high of three shots on goals throughout the tough match.
Howard Payne is now 2-10-1 overall and 2-6-1 overall, while the Lobos are now 8-4-0 overall. The Lady Jackets will hit the road Thursday October 25th to take on LeTourneau University at 5:00 P.M. in Longview, Texas.
