Jackets With Road Loss At Southwestern

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Howard Payne University men's basketball team shoots 30.4% from the field in the second half and falls to Southwestern University 86-56 Saturday afternoon.

After shooting 45.7% from the field in the first half, Howard Payne would struggle from the field connecting on just 30.4% of shots in the second half. The Yellow Jackets also committed 26 turnovers in the game while forcing 19 from Southwestern.

Howard Payne started the game strong opening up an 11 point lead with 14:29 left in the first half. A Joshua Taylor fast break drunk gave the Jackets the 18-7 lead.

From that point, Southwestern chipped away at the HPU lead to hold a 39-37 halftime advantage.

Sixteen second half turnovers for the Jackets led to Southwestern pulling away to the 86-56 final.

Javaris Jones ended with 17 points for the Jackets followed Shadd Cole with 15 points and game-high eight rebounds. Timothy Aguero added a game-high six assists.

Ryan Wheeler led Southwestern with 19 points followed by Luke Hicks with 15.

The Jackets are now 0-3 on the year and Southwestern stands at 2-1 overall on the season. The Jackets will play next on Nov. 24-25 at the Millsaps College tournament in Jackson, Miss.
