JACKSON, Mississippi - Shooting woes for Howard Payne University led to a 70-49 loss to Millsaps College Saturday on day one of the Millsaps tournament.
Howard Payne would shot just 22.5% from the field in the second half and 30.5% for the game. The Jackets were 4 of 18 from behind the arc for 22.2% and 9 of 16 for 52.9% at the free-throw line.
Shooting 54.8% from the field in the first half, Millsaps would gain a 44-24 halftime advantage on the way to the 70-49 final.
Howard Payne was led by
Thomas Bingham with 10 points and a game-high seven rebounds. Bingham was 5 of 6 from the field in the game.
Javaris Jones and
Shadd Cole each followed with nine points.
Millsaps was led by Michael Sullivan with a game-high 14 points.
The Jackets will play Mississippi University for Women on day two of the tournament at 1:00 pm.
